MAYAKOVSKY, Vladimir Vladimirovich (1893-1930). Oblako v shtanakh. Tetraptikh . [The Cloud in Trousers. A Tetraptich]. Moscow: ASIS [1918]. Autographed copy of the second (first uncensored) edition. It restores the original text, which had been substantially censored for the first edition of 1915. In his introduction to the present edition, Mayakovsky writes that he considers this text a 'catechism for contemporary art', and gives his working tiles for each of the previously unnamed parts in his tetraptich: 'Down with your love', 'Down with your art', 'Down with your system', 'Down with your religion'. This copy bears a printed label pasted on the front cover, stating that the edition is uncensored; copies with and without this label are known, with no precedence established. RBH and ABPC record a single copy at auction. MoMA, The Russian Avant-Garde Book , 204. Octavo (180 x 135mm). (Minor marginal soiling). Original tan wrappers printed in black, small printed label on the front cover as issued (spine detached from book block, spine ends chipped, some wear and soiling).
