Medals for Services at Sea from the Collection of the Late Oliver Stirling Lee Four: Chief Petty Officer J. Findlay Royal Navy India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Perak (Ord., H.M.S. Modeste), surname spelt ‘Findley’; Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (Grs. Mte., H.M.S. Dragon); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Ch. Grs. Mte., H.M.S. Lark), impressed naming; Khedive’s Star 1882, contact marks, edge bruising and polished, otherwise good fine or better (4) £250-300 Footnote James Findlay was born at Highbridge, Somerset in December 1856 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in February 1872. He subsequently witnessed active service aboard H.M.S. Modeste off the Malay Peninsula in the Perak operations of 1875-76, and aboard the Dragon in the Egypt operations of 1882. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in January 1885, Findlay was pensioned ashore as a Chief Petty Officer in December 1894.
