Medals to Trumpeters from the Collection of Roderick Cassidy Three: Private J. Grady, 3rd Light Dragoons, onetime the regiment’s Kettle Drummer Cabul 1842 (Trumpr., 3rd K.O.L.D., No. 418), fitted with old silver and steel swivel-bar suspension, contemporary engraved naming; Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 2 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Sobraon (Trumpr., 3rd Lt. Dragn.); Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (Trumpr., 3rd Lt. Dragns.), the second with traces of refixed suspension, contact marks and severe edge bruising throughout but particularly to the last two, thus good fine or better (3) £1000-1200 Footnote John Grady was born in Co. Clare and enlisted in the 3rd Light Dragoons in June 1832, aged 14 years. Appointed a Trumpeter in March 1837, he witnessed active service in Afghanistan in 1842, in addition to being present at the battles represented by his Sutlej and Punjab Medals, his service record noting that he was slightly wounded at Sobraon on 10 February 1846. Grady was advanced to Trumpet-Major in May 1849 and to Kettle Drummer in March 1855, but was reduced to Private in May of the latter year and was discharged in the same rank in June 1858.
