Typed correspondence with some holographic notes by Lenny Bruce. Comprises: a) Typed carbon from Bruce to Belli. 24 Nov 1962, 1-page. Bruce has December engagement at the Gate of Horn in Chicago but someone in Belli’s office apparently set the trial on dates that conflict. He is asking Belli to get the dates changed. An unsigned file copy, but accompanied by Bruce’s holographic notes for the letter written in ink on two sides of an envelope. b) Telegram from Bruce to Belli, 12 Nov 62. Confirming his trial date will be postponed but asking for written confirmation. "Please excuse this terror stricken redundancy but last goof almost caused my bail revocation…" Bruce’s confirmation copy, two-hole punched, browned, and with left upper corner chipped. (c) Typed notes to someone at Belli’s law firm regarding Bruce’s request for a continuance of his narcotics and assault trial. Bruce was being represented by Belli’s associate Seymour Lazar. "I gave Seymour the ball that could have chucked the case right there disqualifying the expertixe [sic] of the chemist - you didn’t pick it up.. read the minutes! ... as my councleour [sic] a rank amateur doesn’t get you in deeper... MOVE THE DATE TO SOME WHERE... If I have to blow theae[sic] bail or go in for a day I must pay the club for an act to replace me…” 8x10”, typed original with holographic corrections and underlining and an additional handwritten note at the bottom. Somewhat addled; Bruce was obviously stressed. Tape residue at top edge. d) Typed letter from Belli’s associate Seymour Lazar to Bruce, signed, implying that Bruce has now retained another attorney. e) Added is an unrelated, typed letter from Belli to Bruce, signed, thanking him for appearing on his television show, San Francisco 2 Feb 1966. 1-page.
