MERCURY HEAT SHIELD – E. O. Extension Drawing . St. Louis: McDonnell Aircraft Corporation, 24-25 March 1961. Mercury heat shield blueprint signed by three Mercury astronauts and the Mercury spacecraft designer. SIGNED by Scott CARPENTER and Wally SCHIRRA. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gordon COOPER and Max FAGET. Dr. Max Faget (1921-2004) was co-designer of the Mercury spacecraft and was given a United States patent for the vehicle’s design.
