MEYER, Johann Jakob (1787-1858). Voyage pittoresque sur la nouvelle route depuis Glurns en Tyrol par le Col de Stilfs (Passo di Stelvio) par la Valtelline, le long du lac de Come, jusqu'à Milan. Zurich: chez l'auteur, 1831-1833.
MEYER, Johann Jakob (1787-1858). Voyage pittoresque sur la nouvelle route depuis Glurns en Tyrol par le Col de Stilfs (Passo di Stelvio) par la Valtelline, le long du lac de Come, jusqu'à Milan. Zurich: chez l'auteur, 1831-1833. Six original parts containing 36 hand-coloured aquatints (217 x 292mm sheets) and one folding engraved map (208 x 487mm). Laid loose as issued in six printed paper wrappers. Provenance : acquired at Sawyer, London, 1939. The title on the wrappers is dated 1833, contrary to the engraved title which gives the date of publication as 1831; on paper with J. Whatman 1828-32 watermarks. The beautiful engravings show views of the village of Schluderns of Stilfs, bridges below Trafoi, a view of Trafoi, the new postal inn Böderlein, the town of Bormio, Tirano and the Church of the Madonna, the town of Sondrio, the view from Colico piano port, and a view of Corenno Gravedona, etc.
