Michael Powolny for Wiener Werksatte, a Wiener Keramik 'fruhling' figure of a woman with hat and bouquet, circa 1910, glazed earthenware, possibly a variant of 'Spring' form the seasons series, impressed marks and numbers 1371 490 3 Austria, painted artist monogram KB, 25.5cm high Note: Weiner Keramik was founded by Powolny and Loffler in 1906 and produced wares specifically for the Weiner Werkstatte from 1907. An example of a similar figure designed by Powolny is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Other figures have been attributed to another designer, Johanna Meier-Michel who may have had some input in the design of this figure, with Powolny. Examples of very similar Fruhling figures by both Powolny and Meier-Michel are in the collection of the MAK (Museum of Applied Arts), Vienna See: Die Kunst, bd.30, 1914, pp.53 and 55 for similar examples of Powolny's figures.
