MIDDLE EAST] CHARDIN, JOHN. Travels of Sir John Chardin into Persia and the East-Indies . London: Moses Pitt in Duke-Street Westminster, 1686. First edition. Full contemporary blind stamped calf, blind tooled. 12 x 7 1/2 inches (31 x 19 cm); [14], 264, 331-417, [9], 154, [6] pp., with frontispiece portrait, engraved and printed titles, a folding map, and 16 plates (eleven of which are folding), as called for by the plate list. The two plates of Ecs-Miazin have been conjoined in this copy. Joints cracked but holding on cords, tears to a few plate folds, folds of map repaired, and one text leaf with a tear without loss, but overall a sound copy. All published at this time of this work, an important desideratum for collectors of travels in the Middle East. ESTC R12885. C
