MIDDLETON, J.J. Grecian remains in Italy . London: W.Bulmer & Co. [and J.F. Dove] for Edward Orme 1812-[1819]. 2° (469 x 328mm). 23 hand-coloured aquatint plates, three double-page, two uncoloured engraved plates. (The first double-page plate shaved at left margin, just affecting image area and inscription beneath.) Contemporary purple straight-grained morocco, covers elaborately panelled in gilt and blind, gilt in compartments, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. (some light scuffing to extremities). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION, with pre-publication watermarks. Issued in parts, the final date on the plates is June 19th, 1819. The second and third double-page plates are sometimes found combined as one large folding panorama. Abbey Travel 165. Henry ABBOTT. Antiquities of Rome; comprising twenty-four select views of its principal ruins; illustrated by a panoramic outline of the modern city. London: John Tyler for Baldwin, Cradock, & Joy, 1820. 2° (577 x 413mm). 24 aquatint plates, printed in bistre, by Abbott, outline etched panorama on 4 folding sheets by S.Rawle after Abbott. (Small tear to lower blank margin of first plate, some light marginal soiling.) Contemporary red morocco gilt, cover with large onlaid marbled-paper panel (extremities rubbed, neat repair to head and foot of spine and corners). Cf.Abbey Travel 179 (coloured copy). (2)
