MILAN -- An album of views of Milan. [Milan: circa 1860]. Oblong 4° (271 x 363mm). 12 mounted hand-coloured lithographic views, some heightened with gum arabic, all edged in black, the mounts with decorative surrounds. (Some light browning to mounts.) Contemporary russet morocco over shaped and bevelled wooden boards with silvered metal mounts, with a border of geometrical shapes in semi-relief tooled in blind with elaborate metal bosses, surrounding a central raised area bearing 'MILANO' in raised lettering tooled in blind, and on the lower cover a simpler raised border with metal corner bosses surrounding a large central panel with a symetrical but irregular rasied cartouche elaborately tooled in blind, gilt edges, bookseller's label of P. Ripamonti Carpiano on rear pastedown (some loss of metal bosses, small tear to head of spine). A fine series of views of Milan, of a very high quality, with skies that are completely opaque and fine detailing to the figures. The subjects include the 'old' (the Duomo , the basilica of Sant Amboglio) and the 'new' (the Arco della Pace , completed in 1838).
