High quality detail, hand painted on blocks measuring 14cm x 14cm Of special note is the desirable Eagle Squadron emblem. The Eagle Squadrons were three fighter squadrons of the Royal Air Force (RAF), formed with volunteer pilots from the United States during the early days of World War II (circa 1940), prior to America's entry into the war in December 1941 following the attack by the Japanese at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. Three Eagle Squadrons were formed between September 1940 and July 1941. They existed until 29 September 1942, when they were turned over to the Eighth Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Forces and became the 4th Fighter Group. Of the thousands that volunteered, only 244 Americans served with the three Eagle Squadrons; 16 Britons also served as squadron and flight commanders. Overall condition is excellent with minimal abreactions. These were directly obtained from the estate sale of the artist in the United States in early 2014. (7)
