MISSAL, use of Rome. Missale Romanum ordinarium. Venice: Luc' Antonio Giunta, June 1535. 2 o (356 x 247mm). Gothic types, double column. Printed in red and black. Title-page with woodcut dial of the golden number and Guinta's Florentine lily device (Kristeller 222), full-page woodcut of the Crucifixion (329 x 229 mm) repeated twice, numerous column-width woodcuts (some illustrating the Life of the Virgin), woodcut initials, woodcut borders at section openings. Musical notation: square notes in black on four-line staff printed in red. Vellum tabs affixed to fore-margins. (Small marginal tears to e8, q5-7, z2, G4 with repaired tear crossing text, fore-margin p8 patched, finger-soiling to margins of p2-r1, lower margins H3-4 and lower and fore-margin I1-2,6-8 reinforced, a few letters text inked overr patch on I7r, touches of early color to woodcut at q4v and border at q5r). Sixteenth-century blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, brass cornerpieces, center bosses, clasps and catches (joints cracked). Provenance : Nineteenth-century English bookplate, pencil notations on flyleaves (purchased from F.S. Ellis, 1866 according to clipped catalogue note) -- Estelle Doheny (Grabhorn Press bookplate). A FINELY DECORATED GIUNTA MISSAL. Weale-Bohatta 1076.
