A FINE SET, INCLUDING REPORTS OF THE LEWIS AND CLARK EXPEDITION. The 1806 volume (Second Hexade, vol. 3) includes the essay "Lewis's Map of the Parts of North America..." (pp.315-318), proposing the composition of the map ( Literature of the Lewis and Clark Expedition 2b.1). In the 1808 volume is a review of Gass's book (pp.185-89) and a report of Pike's journey to explore Louisiana (pp. 297-300). Of medical interest in volume 6 is John Conrad Otto's (1774-1844) "An Account of an Haemorrhagic Disposition Existing in Certain Families," considered one of the first great contributions to medicine in North America. "Otto recognized and adequately described haemophilia, noting that females are not affected but may transmit the disease" (Garrison-Morton 3054). Norman 1620. (12)
