A collection of books, letters, theatre programmes, and ephemera relating to the author William Wymark Jacobs (1863-1943), comprising a complete set of all UK and some US editions of all his novels and short stories, including Many Cargoes, 1896 (author's first book), The Skipper's Wooing, 1897, Sea Urchins, 1898, More Cargoes, 1898 (1st US edition), A Master of Craft, 1900 (with a one page letter to Leslie Mead, 1931 contained in tipped-in envelope, Light Freights, 1901, The Lady of the Barge, 1902, At Sunwich Port, 1902 (inscribed to Charles Wilson , Odd Crafy, [1903], Captains All, 1905, Dialstone Lane, 1904, Short Cruises, 1907, Salthaven, 1908 (signed), Sailor's Knots, 1909, Ship's Company, [1911], Night Watches, 1914, The Castaways, 1916, Deep Waters, [1919, with a loose one page letter, 1919 to Mr Wilson], Sea Whispers, [1926], Fifteen Stories, 1926, The Night-Watchman and Other Longshoremen, 1932, Snug Harbour (New York, 1931) and Cruises and Cargoes, 1934, some illustrated, occasional light spotting and toning, original cloth, a little rubbed but in generally good overall condition, plus a further five volumes signed or inscribed by the author, an Author's Autograph Edition, New York, 1897 (limited signed edition 884/1000), a quantity of duplicate first editions, reprints, cheap editions, paperbacks, bibliographies, photo postcards and related articles of the actresses Rita Jolivet and Jessie Bateman, theatre programmes of the Beauty and the Barge etc, plus two original pencil drawings by the artist Will Owen illustrator of many of Jacobs' books, plus Owen's Three Jolly Sailors and Me, [1919] and some books, artwork and ephemera William Wymark Jacobs was an English author of mainly humourous maritime stories, but is best remembered for his short horror story 'The Monkey's Paw' which appears in The Lady of the Barge, among other supernatural tales. His wife Eleanor Jacobs, was a suffragette, and sentenced to one month's hard labour for smashing a window with a hammer. (approx 200)
