[xx], 610; [xii], 490, [42] pp. Illustrated with 40 (of 42) engraved plates. (4to) contemporary full calf, spines with gilt tooling, raised bands. First Edition. The manners and customs of the "Sauvages Ameriquains" compared to those of Ancient Times, with notable engraved plates. The author felt that the similarity of the customs with those of ancient nations of northern and central Asia proved that American Indians were descendants of emigrants from Tartary. Howes L22. Lot Amendments Condition: An unmatched set with Vol. 2 being slightly shorter. Spine labels lacking, all covers detached, page block of Vol. 1 split into several sections, edges worn; lacking 2 plates from Vol. 1. Should be examined, sold as is. Item number: 171459
