A PRESIDENT DISCREETLY SPECULATES IN COMMODITIES From Washington, the President gives instructions to his overseer: "...In consequence of the prospect of war with Naples, I understand that flour has risen, somewhat & I think that it will rise more. It will be well for you to keep back the sale of the flour, for the present. If it is sent down, you had better give the company a hint to that effect. I had rather it should come from you than me, as it might get into the papers if I give it, tho I know no more than others on the subject. If the flour is not sent down, you had perhaps better keep it back awhile, provided, there will be difficulty hereafter, in sending it down. Let me know whether you have commenced making bricks, & how the wheat & meadows look..."
