No. 40 black push-knob filler, two gold-plated cap rings, white inset captop star, no clip, "STOFFHAAS" and "4810 MONTBLANC MEISTERSTÜCK" imprint to cap, "SIMPLO" barrel imprint, endpiece imprinted "40 / M.-N. / OB" . Appears to be black celluloid rather than black hard rubber. 138mm. 18K gold No. 45 oblique Montblanc circle-vent nib, very slight flex. STOFFHAAS imprint crisp, MEISTERSTÜCK imprint 80%, SIMPLO imprint quite rubbed; captop star a bit toned, some brassing to cap rings; fine condition. -Wallrafen, Stefan & Jens Rösler. Collectible Stars I: Montblanc 1908-1947 . [Koln: 2004], pp.88-89, 148. No. 40 push-knob fillers without STOFFHAAS imprints are listed with a scarcity rating of 9 (on a 12-point scale), indicating "ultra-rare: up to 75 exist". The book lists other sizes with STOFFHAAS imprints but not No. 40s, and states: "In 1919, the stationer STOFFHAAS together with MONTBLANC set up the first exclusive MONTBLANC shop where only MONTBLANC and STOFFHAAS products were sold. Most of the STOFFHAAS writing equipment was produced by Mont Blanc until the end of the thirties".
