Created in 1995, Montegrappa's celebrated Dragon pen quickly achieved status unmatched, perhaps, by any other modern limited instrument. Several iterations were made of the fountain pen, but no rollerball versions were offered to the public. However, unknown to even the most knowledgeable collectors, Montegrappa's artisans crafted one rollerball example in sterling silver over marbled red celluloid. The pen was created purely as an artistic exercise, and the resulting one-of-a-kind masterpiece was secured in Montegrappa's corporate headquarters museum. Its very existence is publicly revealed here for the first time. A rare pen of the highest order, this singular rollerball is truly a grail of modern limited pens. The dragon's eyes are rubies, and the red celluloid body contrasts beautifully with the sterling silver overlay, anticipating Montegrappa's cinnamon-veined red celluloid Bruce Lee Dragon pen, created 10 years after this rarity was fashioned.
