MOON SEEN FROM LUNAR ORBIT – Masursky, Harold, Colton, G.W., and El-Baz, Farouk. Apollo Over the Moon - A View from Orbit (NASA SP-362) . Washington: NASA, 1978. Delivering Apollo's views of the Moon from the lunar orbit, with signatures from astronauts. SIGNED and INSCRIBED with their individual Apollo flight numbers by Buzz ALDRIN, Alan BEAN, Gene CERNAN, Charles CONRAD, Charles M. DUKE, Fred HAISE, Richard GORDON James LOVELL Edgar MITCHELL, Dave SCOTT, Tom STAFFORD and Al WORDEN. An extraordinary collection of lunar orbit photographs taken during the Apollo missions with many from the high resolution cameras flown on the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 flights. These were the Fairchild Metric and ITEK Panoramic cameras which were placed in a special area of the Apollo Service Module known as the Scientific Instrument Module or SIM bay. A deep-space EVA (spacewalk) by the Command Module Pilot was required to retrieve the film from these cameras prior to the astronauts return to earth. Included is a detailed a summary of the Hasselblad, Hycon, Maurer, and Nikon cameras used in lunar orbit, with extensive illustrations and operational descriptions. Most of the illustrated photographs include a kilometer distance gage and north directional arrow, with detailed captions. Selected lunar areas have multi-colored geologic maps to assist interpretation of unusual features. An appendix provides film, frame numbers, frame type, camera tilt, and sun elevation of all lunar images illustrated. 12 by 9 inches. 255 pp. Original color pictorial cloth.
