Original dark blue cloth (some light wear at extremities, lower corner of rear cover bumped); red quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance : James Huneker (presentation inscription, bookplate); Cortlandt F. Bishop (bookplate, his sale AAA/Anderson, 26 January 1939, lot 818); John Fleming (his sale Christie's New York, 18 November 1988, lot 254). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY TO THE AMERICAN AUTHOR AND CRITIC JAMES GIBBONS HUNEKER, inscribed by Moore on the front free endpaper: "To James Huneker with George Moore's kind regard, July 14th 1906." WITH EXTENSIVE MARKINGS AND ANNOTATIONS BY HUNEKER, totalling some 213 words in pencil on 55 pages and pencil markings, underlinings etc. on 189 pages.
