Beschreibung:

MORE, THOMAS, [SIR] The vvorkes of Sir Thomas More . London: Iohn Cawod, Iohn Waly, and Richarde Tottell, 1557. First edition of the collected works of More. Very early calf tooled in blind, with the initials R.S. at the center of each board, later spine. 11 inches (18 cm); a small folio in two columns, paginated [36] (including title), 88, 89-104 columns, 105-1138, [2], 1139-1458 pp., the final page with the imprint. Boards worn and somewhat wormed, detached, spine worn. Minor worming throughout, more severe at the beginning and the end (with some paper restorations, with occasional minor text loss to the first thirty leaves). Still, generally a clean copy, with early marginalia. Final text leaf is detached but present; the collation indicates that there should be one more leaf (and this is confirmed by ESTC); this missing leaf is, we believe, a blank, but this item sold with all faults, not subject to return. This copy has the inserted leaf after 2C5. With the bookplate of William Charles De Meuron, Earl Fitzwilliam [1872-1943, the 7th Earl Fitzwilliam]. C
