Half-titles and engraved frontispieces to two text volumes, atlas with large engraved folding map, 24 plates (15 aquatints, 9 line engravings). Text: later morocco-backed marbled boards, flat spines gilt; atlas: contemporary figured boards, letterpress label on upper cover. Provenance (of text volumes): Paul Lagrave (bookplate). [ With :] J. J. MORIER. Second Voyage en Perse, en Armnie et dans l'Asie-Mineure, fait de 1810 1816. Paris: J. Smith for Gide fils., 1818. 2 volumes, 8 (200 x 125mm). Half-titles. Engraved frontispieces and 2 engraved plates. (Occasional light soiling to margins of text leaves.) Later morocco-backed boards (bound to match text of first title) (some scuffing to spines). Provenance : Paul Lagrave (bookplates). FIRST EDITIONS IN FRENCH of these translations of Morier's accounts of his two journeys: the first as secretary to Sir Harford Jones's mission to the court of Persia; the second, a more extensive expedition, included the period when Morier acted as secretary to Sir Gore Ouseley, ambassador extraordinary to the court of Teheran.
