Uttica: For the Author, 1804. 8° (238 x 150mm). Errata leaf. (Title repaired, some browning). Uncut and untrimmed in modern calf and boards. VERY RARE FIRST EDITION of the first book printed in Utica, New York, doubtless by Merrell and Seward, of Moulton's adventures and voyage to make his fortune in the American fur trade with China. The author and crew of the sealer 'Onico' suffered great hardship and indignities from the ship's master, George Howe and the first mate who abandoned the mutinous crew on Juan Fernandez Island.
