Title: Mr. Webster's Speech on the Greek Revolution Author: Webster, Daniel Place: Washington City Publisher: John S. Meehan Date: 1824 Description: 50 pp. (8vo) 21.5x13.5 cm (8½x5¼") modern boards, leather spine lettered in gilt, custom slipcase. First Edition. "A brilliant oration on Greek Independence (Jan. 19, 1824) signalized his return to the national political arena . . . " (DAB). Inscribed on the title page by Edward Everett to the Marquis of Lansdowne, dated Feb. 1824. Everett at the time was a Professor of Greek literature at Harvard but would be elected to the U.S. House of Representative later in 1824. He would go on the serve as Governor of Massachusetts, U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, U.S. Secretary of State (succeeding Daniel Webster) and U.S. Senator from Massachusetts. Lot Amendments Condition: Boards a bit faded; paper slightly browned; near fine. Item number: 264999
