[bound with:] Der curiose Chumicus, oder ...Der curiose Medicus, oder...Der Curiose Chirurgus... Dresden and Leipzig: Joh. Christoph Mieth, 1706. 5 parts in one, 8vo, contemporary German calf, upper cover blindstamped with the arms of the Abbey of Lambach; engraved frontispieces browned evenly, some minor browning or spotting. 2 engraved frontispieces and approximately 500 botanical woodcuts in text. Pritzel 6539; see Nissen BBI , Band III: Supp. 2222n (earliest edition noted is a 1720 edition). An unusual herbal and compilation of medical receipts, which went through several editions and several titles. It first appeared under the title Vade-mecum botanicum in 1694 and under its present title in 1706. Despite its title, the Curioser Chymicus is devoted to herbal and mineral remedies, as are the subsequent sections. Provenance : Abbey of Lambach, with their arms on upper cover and stamp on title -- Kenneth K. Mackenzie; Horticultural Society of New York, bookplate.
