Musigny--Vintage 1935
2 bottles per lot
PRE-WAR COMTE DE VOGÜÉ MUSIGNY HISTORY The history of this great Burgundy domaine stems from 1450 when Jean Moisson endowed money for a chapel to be built in his native village. Under the protection of Cardinal Rolin, son of Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins, this chapel eventually became the parish church of Chambolle. The late Comte George de Vogüé began his stewardship of this magnificent property in 1925 and fortified the domaine's history for the next 50 plus years. The estate is clearly recognized as perhaps the second most important red wine domaine in all of the Côte d'Or, only the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti precedes it in prestige. The Domaine owns the choicest portions of Musigny -- including the totality of Les Petits Musigny -- an amazing 7/10 of the entire appellation! Add to this 1/5 of Bonnes Mares the only other Grand Cru in the commune. The vines average over 30 years old, and up to 40 years old in parts of Le Musigny, this cuvée is therefore sold exclusively as Vieilles Vignes . Musigny Vieilles Vignes, Comte Georges de Vogüé is a wine of legendary delicacy, perfume, complexity and beauty, with Bonnes-Mares being usually more structured, often requiring even more years to reach its peak. The present head of the family is Elisabeth, Baroness de Ladoucette, the 19th generation to own the property and the only daughter of the late Comte George de Vogüé who passed in 1987. A dynamic team then took over the management, consisting of vineyard-manager Eric Bourgogne, cellar-master Francois Millet and sales director Jean-Luc Pipin. VINTAGE 1935 "1935 **** A very good vintage but little shipped to the UK, as the merchants had stocked up with the popular '34s." MB, GVWB Musigny--Vintage 1935 Côte de Nuits, G. de Vogüé Levels: 2cm or better; one bin soiled label; modern domaine capsules, labels states "Mis en bouteilles à la properiété", believed to be reconditioned bottles, Appellation Controlée neck labels, American Wine Merchants importer strip labels 2 bottles per lot
