N. J. PALISADES III, c.1950s Charles Brady HRHA (1926-1997)
Signature: signed lower right; inscribed with title on backing board in pencil; also with typed label on reverse Medium: oil on paper Dimensions: 30 by 35cm., 12 by 13.75in. The Palisades, also called the New Jersey Palisades or the Hudson Palisades are a twenty mile long range of steep cliffs along the west side of the lower Hudson River in northeastern New Jersey and so... outhern New York The cliffs run in a northerly direction from Bergen Hill, Jersey City to near Nyack, New York. They rise in a dramatic almost vertical shape from the river’s edge and are the most distinctive geological feature visible from New York City. Landscape was always an integral part of Brady’s oeuvre although in his later years the prevalence of still life overshadowed this genre. Brady was born and raised in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan and studied at Art Student’s League, NYC. He was well received in solo exhibitions in his native city at the Babcock Galleries on Madison Avenue in the 1960s before relocating to Ireland. His first solo show in Dublin was held in the Molesworth Gallery in 1964 and comprised mostly Irish landscapes. Typed label verso reads, "PG008 'Palisades III', (C.
