Title: NAACP leader on lynching of Southern Blacks Author: White, Walter F. Place: Publisher: Date: 1929 Description: Typed Letter Signed as Assistant Secretary, NAACP. New York, July 25, 1929, 1pg. To Marion Deane, Hampton Institute, Virginia “Rope and Faggot” was White’s third book, but his first work of non-fiction. Earlier this year, we sold another letter from White to Deane, about his 1926 novel, “Fire in the Flint”, which also dealt with Southern lynch law. White, soon to become the longstanding president of the NAACP, led the organization’s campaign for federal action against lynchings and white mob violence in the segregated Southern states. "Thanks for appreciation of his book, ROPE AND FAGGOT, a history of lynching in America. 'It was a book which I felt ought to be written and, more, that such a book should be written with as complete honesty as was humanly possible. It has been most gratifying to me that the book has met with the approval of intelligent, fair-minded people and with the denunciation of those who are lynchers in spirit if not in fact.," Lot Amendments Condition: Very good.
