(Folio) 38x23.5 cm (15x9¼") later sailcloth binding, leather spine labels lettered in gilt. First Edition. "A collection of voyages apparently compiled in competition with the Churchill collection. The first edition is valuable for the original impressions of the fine series of maps by Herman Moll including a very good one of America. There is also a map of the world according to Mercator's projection, with improvements, showing the northern coast line and part of the west and south coasts of Australia together with parts of Tasmania and New Zealand. Among the voyages included are those of Magellan, Drake, Cavendish, Schouten, Hawkins, Narbrough, and Dampier."ng the northern coast line and part of the west and south coasts of Australia..." Lot Amendments Condition: Cloth a bit soiled, light wear; large folding map at the front of Volume with extensive repair, trimmed into title at head of map, West Indies map with old repair to stub tear, North Pole map trimmed to neat line at top, frontispiece in Volume 1 trimmed and laid down, lacking the frontis from Volume 2 and one other plate; some foxing, a few modern marginal ink notations; good.
