Beschreibung:

Gelatin silver print mounted on board. 17.7x22.8 cm (7x9"); board: 33.5x38.1 cm (13¼x15"). Signed by Wynn Bullock on mount. Additionally signed by Bullock, titled and dated on mount verso with no. 1307A. Considering Bullock's distinction between reality as perceived and existence as the source of perception, one wonders if Wynn Bullock was reading Steinbeck and Ricketts when naming this photograph. "In going toward a headland, for example, you can steer directly for it while you are at a distance, only changing course as you approach. Or you may set your compass course for the point and correct it by vision when you approach. The working out of the ideal into the real is here—the relationship between inward and outward, microcosm to macrocosm. The compass simply represents the ideal, present but unachievable, and sight-steering a compromise with perfection which allows your boat to exist at all." -Sea of Cortez.
