NEAR EASTERN GOLD AND EMERALD PENDANT EARRINGS Circa 6th-5th century BC. A pair of gold composite earrings comprising a wire hoop with helical wire bindings and transverse rod with pearl, emerald and agate beads; the hoop attached to the pendant cylinder by extensions of the wire bindings with pearl and agate beads along the outer edges; the pendant cylinder formed from gold sheet with filigree and granulation detailing, on the reverse a filigree fillet, on the front a repoussé mask above a circular collet (one with cabochon stone remaining); the base a domed cap with pendant agate and pearl beads. Gold, emerald, agate and pearl, 7.97 grams, 47 mm; 8.21 grams, 49 mm. Very fine condition. [2] Provenance Silk collection, London, UK; formed in the 1950's. Literature See Troili, E. et al.
