Autograph letter signed ('Nelson & Bronte'), A LOVE LETTER TO EMMA HAMILTON, Portsmouth, 27 February 1801, one page, 4to , integral address leaf, addressed in autograph to 'Lady Hamilton 23 Piccadilly London' and signed ('Nelson'), postal markings, seal on red wax (seal tear, remnants of guards, split along fold between the two leaves and repaired on blank verso, short split at fold from left margin). Provenance : Alfred Morrison collection, no. 529.

A PASSIONATE LOVE LETTER AFTER A SEPARATION: 'My Dearest friend parting from such a friend is literally tearing ones own flesh but the remembrance will keep up our spirits till we meet, my affection is if possible stronger than ever for you and I trust it will keep encreasing as long as we both live'; Nelson continues using the fictitious persona of 'Mrs Thomson' which he adopted when referring to their daughter Horatia, 'I have seen Mrs Thomsons friend who is delighted at my having seen his dear child I am sure he will be very fond of it'; the letter concludes with news of their preparations for departure, and with a promise of another letter that night, and the salutation 'for Ever aye for ever Believe me your only affectionate Nelson & Bronte'.
