NEW YORK, SEVENTEETH CENTURY]. A group of two manuscript documents (1 in Dutch, 1 in English), plus TWO PARTIALLY COLORED PLAT DRAWINGS captioned in Dutch, detailing the distribution of SUBSTANTIAL REAL ESTATE IN LOWER MANHATTAN, comprising 12 properties on Church Street (Kerk-Straat) and bordering "the sheep meadows (Prinz-Gracht)," in lower Manhattan. [New York], 1692 and 1694.
NEW YORK, SEVENTEETH CENTURY]. [New York], 1692 and 1694. AN INTERESTING AND UNUSUALLY DECORATIVE PAIR OF EARLY PLAT DRAWINGS, carefully mapping lots in lower Manhattan, with legal documents recording the partition of these "vacant pieces or parcels of land." Today, these properties are no longer vacant, and embrace some of the most valuable real estate on Earth. Presently, Church Street runs on the eastern edge of the site of the World Trade Center. The group vividly documents the mingling of Dutch and English land-holders in New York at this date, some 30 years after the Dutch city was ceded to Britain. CONTENTS: Manuscript indenture signed by various property holders, both Dutch and English; one notable mentioned is Henricus Selyns (1636-1701), Minister of the Dutch Reform Church in New York, concerning ownership of various plots, July 6, 1694. -- Manuscript document, signed by various members of the DeReimer family and two mediators, W. Churther and Lucas Stoutenburgh (a noted early American silversmith), detailing the division of 12 Church Street properties, listing owners and appraising each lot, November 21, 1692. 2pp., in Dutch. -- Large pen and ink plat drawing, showing 12 plots of land, each neatly captioned in Dutch to pin-point its location and boundaries, FINELY COLORED IN WATERCOLOR (blue, red, gray-green), captioned in Dutch. 2pp., folio (16½ x 12 1/3 in), margins slightly frayed. -- Another, similar plat drawing, showing 3 plots, 2pp., folio (12½ x 9 in)., pale hand-coloring, margins frayed . Together 4 pieces. (4)
