Near-contemporary English red straight-grained morocco gilt, covers with elaborate panelled design, spine in six compartments with double-raised bands, lettered in the second, gilt edges (spine somewhat discoloured and with small chip to head). Provenance : Heneage Finch, 4th Earl of Aylesford (1751-1812, Packington Hall, Warwickshire, bookplate). A fine copy of the first edition. Like its successor, Jacquin's Collecteanea , this publication has several of the attributes of a periodical: no pre-determined end and mixed contents. These included articles by Jacquin, friends and colleagues, the most important of which is probably Franz Xavier von Wulfen's Plantae rariores Carinthiacae in vol.II.
