Autograph free frank ("Richard Nixon") on envelope addressed to "Mr. Alvin Kantor 5322 Belmont Avenue Chicago, Illinois 60641," the ink signature written beneath the familiar printed franking signature, black "Santa Ana, CA Nov 8 1978" postmark, larger purple circular handstamp "San Clemente, CA Nov 7 1978," 100 x 190mm. (4 x 7 7/8 in.) . [ With :] Typed document (unsigned) on "Office of Richard Nixon" stationery, San Clemente, 7 November 1978, certifying that "this...is being mailed in an envelope hand-franked by President Nixon..." Rare. Only one other franking signature of Nixon has appeared at auction, according to American Book Prices Current. That example, sold in 1992, was affixed to an unaddressed envelope and certainly did not pass through the mails, as did the present cover. Exhibited : World stamp Expo '89, Washington, D.C., 17 November--3 December 1989.
