North Indian Sandstone of a Goddess 10th/11th Century Standing in an elegant pose, the hips swaying gently to the left, the left arm bent and holding a wisp, the right hand resting on the thigh, dressed in a dhoti, sashes and multiple jeweled necklaces, armlets and earrings, the serene face with almond-shaped eyes, the hair pulled into a high chignon and secured by a jeweled tiara, an attendant stands at her right hip, wood base. Height 20 inches. C
Right arm missing on large figure along with small finger. Front of crown has surface losses, face has surface loss to left cheek and to nose and above left eye. Wisp handle is missing. Right arm of small figure missing. There is no certificate of provenance with the piece. It was sold by Doyle in the September 10, 2012 Asian Works of Art Sale, lot 27. It was designated as Property of a Private Maryland Collector.
