notary, and his wife, Isabella, and others of a demolished tenement in the parish of St. Mary le Tower, Ipswich, adjacent to “le Tymbyrmarket”, charter in Latin on parchment [England (Ipswich), dated 21 March 1479] Single-sheet charter, 12 lines in a compact scrolling secretarial hand, opening with a small initial ‘S’ formed of decorative penwork flourishes, one red wax seal and three tags wanting seals (one tag cut from another document), some small stains and folds, else good condition, 115+20 by 285mm. The figures named here include an array of prominent figures from late medieval Ipswich, and attest to the variety of roles individuals could have, including Robert Wymball (a clothier as well as lawyer, notary and bailiff) and William Wattys (a seller of wine and ale, as well as the coroner).
