It was copied from Blaeu's then-current world map, reduced in size by about two-thirds, and without the decorative border. Shirley notes that the "engraving is neatly executed, with Germanic touches to the lettering." There are two polar projections in lower corners. California is in pre-insular form. This is the second state, first issued in 1646, without Merian's imprint. Shirley 345.
