Octagonal-shaped lacquer playing card box, China, circa 1830s. 12.75 x 15.5 x 5.5 in. (323 x 394 x 145 mm). Finely detailed Chinese export black and gold lacquer octagonal box on claw feet with removable top lid. Overall chinoisie outdoor decoration in various shades of gold and red adorn the top and sides of the box. The interior contains seven removable lacquer boxes, four of which house game counters in yellow, red, green, and purple, and two additional compartments that each hold five decorated lacquer trays.
