Asia, oder, Genaue und Gründliche Beschreibung des gantzen Syrien und Palestins, oder Gelobten Landes, by Olfert Dapper. Amsterdam: Jacob von Meursen, 1681. German. First German edition. Two parts in one volume. First German edition of the comprehensive study by Olfert Dapper of Syria and Palestine. Includes an engraved frontispiece, 39 engraved plates (most double-spread or folded) and engravings incorporated in the text. For more information on the author and the book, see previous item. [6], 220 pp, [3] leaves, 456, [8] pp (pagination slightly flawed) + [40] engraved plates, 30 cm. Good overall condition. Stains and dampstains. Tears to folded plates and slight tears to margins of several leaves. Open tears to frontispiece. The entire frontispiece is mounted on paper for reinforcement. The margins of several leaves and some of the engraved plates are trimmed. Pencil inscriptions on first and last leaves. Original vellum binding, with defects (spine partly detached). Provenance: Collection of Hermann Meyer and his daughter Channah Sapir.
