Beschreibung:

A remarkable set of seven fountain pens observing the birth of the third millenium. The highlight of the set is a magnificent Roma 2000 Gian Lorenzo Bernini pen, honoring the great Florentine sculptor on the 400th anniversary of his birth. The 20-faceted pen is fashioned of 18K solid gold with mother-of-pearl panels, with a blue lapis lazuli set in the captop, cradled in a Murano crystal half-shell display tray. Its creation took over 200 hours, and it is perhaps Omas' finest achievement. Also included are three series of Roma 2000 pens, in both 18K solid gold and sterling silver over vegetal resin, totaling six pens. Each pair of pens represents a different millennium: the first pair portrays a compass, the Amanuenses (monks who preserved Western culture by transcribing ancient texts), a Viking boat, and other symbols. The second pair portray the Crusades, Da Vinci, Columbus, a locomotive, a missile, and other emblems of the progression of modernity. The third pair, representing the dawning new millennium, portrays astronomical symbols, suggesting mankind's future heritage in the stars. Extra-fine two-tone gold nibs. Outer boxes, display boxes, booklets, Murano crystal display tray. Year of production: 1998. Original retail: $54,500 for the set ($20,000 for G. L. Bernini; $9500 each for the 3 gold pens; $2000 each for the 3 silver pens). Limited Editions: 025/100 (Bernini); 025/100 (gold Roma 2000s); 0025/1000 (silver Roma 2000s).
