Sterling silver leaf, vine and flower filigree over black lacquer, "self-filling" system, sterling silver hallmarks, endpiece imprinted "Pat. No. 16149-13". 137mm. 14K gold Warranted heart-vent nib, very slight flex. Excellent condition; lacquer unblemished, cartouche untouched, wonderful original patina to silver. -Lambrou, Andreas. Fountain Pens of the World. [Epping: 2005]. No sterling silver-over-lacquer overlay pens are pictured; see p. 155 for a gold-filled overlay example in a lesser pattern. An aesthetically superior masterpiece which seems to combine Art Nouveau and Japanese influences. This rare pattern is not recorded in any of the standard references, nor found in examples in private collections. This overlay pen may well be considered to be the company's highest design achievement.
