Hand lettering in lower left corner identifies the photograph as by H.C. Tibbitts. This spectacular panoramic photograph captures a sweeping view of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, from the Presidio to Fort Mason. Beyond that can be seen the San Francisco Bay, including Alcatraz and the Golden Gate in the distance. Taken by Howard Clinton Tibbitts (1863-1937), a professional San Francisco photographer, and one of the official photographers for the P.P.I.E. He was among the original members of The California Camera Club, established in San Francisco in 1890. Lot Amendments Condition: Some discoloration all over, some soiling, some chipping at edges, a 9" diagonal crack on surface, some areas rubbed away; in need of cleaning and restoration, but still quite stunning; sold with all faults; good.
