Marvelous working sketch book of Herman Oliver Albright, who arrived in San Francisco from his native Germany in 1905, soon started working at the bookseller and publisher Paul Elder, and joined the Bohemian world of Jack London, George Sterling and others. He soon took up painting, and began to get artistic notice, with his art exhibited at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and other venues. The present sketchbook is a splendid sampling of his spontaneous sketches as he formed his technique. On the front pastedown he has written, "Please return to: H. Oliver Albright, 737 Buena Vista W., San Francisco." Lot Amendments Condition: Covers rubbed, soiled, spine perished; internally very good. Item number: 274790a
