Two "Autograph" books. Book one: Obl. 4 x 7 in., "oxblood" leather with gilt front and spine, a.e.g. Many Civil War generals. Those with dates seem to have signed in 1874-1876, most in New York (possibly something like a MOLLUS event where many would be in one place). Previous owner Mrs. Wm. Stewart, Highland Falls, NY. Signatures include: Henry Prince (1811-1892, USMA 1835), Bvt. Brig. Genl., US Army; Quincy Adams Gillmore (1825-1888, USMA 1849), Lieut. Col. Engineers, Bvt. Maj. Genl. USA; John M. Cuyler (1810-1884), Surgeon & Bvt. Brig. Genl.; Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886, USMA 1840), Maj. Genl.; Horatio G. Wright (1820-1899, USMA 1841), Lieut. Col. Engineers., Bvt. Maj. Genl. US Army; Orlando B. Willcox (1823-1903, USMA 1847), Col. 12th Infy. & Bvt. Maj. Genl.; Nathan W. Brown (1819-1893), Asst. Paymaster Genl. & Bvt. Brig. Genl.; John Newton (1822-1895, USMA 1842), Lieut. Col. Engineers, Bvt. Maj. Genl.; Bowman H. McCalla (1844-1910), Lieut. Commander, US Navy (final rank Admiral); W.T. Burwell, Lieut. US Navy; Rufus Ingalls (1818-1893, USMA 1843), Col. Asst QM Genl. & Bvt. Maj. Genl.; William Candler Hodgkins (1854-1922), US Coast & Geodetic Survey; Oliver O. Howard (1830-1909, USMA 1854); and more. Second book: Obl. 5 x 8 in., green cloth with gilt front and spine, a.e.g. This appears to be a collection of US Senators from about 1875 or so (approx. the 44th Congress). The ffep has the collector/owner: Charles E. Hamlin, Bangor, Maine. He may be the son of Hannibal Hamlin (VP 1861-1865, Senate 1869-1880). The first page is signed by U.S. Grant, the second page by Hannibal Hamlin. There are about 73 other signatures, each with the state they represent. There is also one clipped signature and one signed calling card tucked into the book. Condition: Each with some handling wear, as expected when dozens of people sign it. Both still holding.
