Pair of Meissen Porcelain Models of Guinea-Fowl (Perlhuhn) Circa 1745, faint blue crossed swords marks, modeled by J.J. Kändler Naturalistically modeled in opposition standing astride reeds, with black and white speckled plumage, except for white mid-wing and back feathers, and purple tipped neck feathers, with iron-red combs and wattles, the tree-stump bases applied with turquoise flowerheads and green leaves. Height 6 inches, width 5 inches. Provenance: From the Coll. of the Duchess of. (partial sticker to base). Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 16 October 1969, . The factory records originally list the model in Kändler's Taxa of September 1741: Eine Perl Hennne in Thon poussirt von mittelmassiger Grosse, welche ebenfalls Compagnon gegen eine andere Perlhenne abgeben soll, damitsolche Stucke allzeit gegeneinander sehen. Similar models are illustrated by Carl Albiker, Die Meissner Porzellantiere im 18.Jahrhundert, 1937 ed., no. 126, and Rainer Ruckert, Meissener Porzellan, nos. 1129 and 1130. Additional pairs are conserved by the Landesmuseum, Schwerin, Collection of Erich von Goldschmidt-Rothschild, no. 450 and in the Roussel Collection, Paris, no. 157.
