RARE PAMPHLETS AND EPHEMERA RELATING TO THE 1929 RIOTS. The first-named work is extremely rare work by a moderate Arab wishing to give evidence before the Shaw Commission (see lot 380) on the 1929 riots, which was ruled as inadmissible. The sub-title indicates this was translated from the Arabic into Hebrew, but we have been unable to trace any extant copy of the Arabic original, and this Hebrew edition is recorded in 2 copies only in institutions (Brandeis and Harvard). The works by Triwaks are an analysis of the Shaw Commission. Jabotinsky's pamphlet argues that security for Jews cannot be maintained without a Jewish self-defence force, and this can be identified as one of the foundation papers outling the conception of Irgun.
