PAPAL CURIA -- PAUL III (Pope, 1468-1549). Bulla sacri oecumenici Concilii Tridenti celebrandi , [Rome: Antonio Blado], 1542. 4° (228 x 169mm.), woodcut papal arms on title (very light waterstain), uncut in early 20th-century marbled paper boards; pencilled collation note of Giuseppe Martini A rare publication of the papal bull convoking the council of Trent for 1 November 1542, the first serious prelude to the final and successful convocation three years later. The Council did meet briefly in 1542, but, due to sparse attendance, was adjourned and did not come into active existence until 1545. BEGNI, Simon. Oratio i[n] sexta Lateranen[sis] Co[n]cilii sessione , [Rome: M. Silber, 1513]. 4° (210 x 145mm.), within a woodcut architectural border, modern paper boards. In his oration before the Lateran Council, Begni, Bishop of Modrus, gives an account of the conquest of Epirus by the Turks, the current situation in Dalmatia and praises the campaigns of the Venetians, Hungarians and Poles against the infidels. Göllner 58. ZANE, Bernardus. Oratio ... habita in prima sessione Lateranen[sis] Concilii , Rome: Jacobus Mazochius, 6 November 1512. 4° (210 x 145mm.), title within a woodcut architectural border.
