Paris: Aug. Legrand & A. S. Letaille, 1822. 16mo (4 3/4 x 3 3/8 inches; 120 x 85 mm). 9 cut-out figures and 2 heads, all engraved, hand-colored and loosely inserted, as issued. Original paper wrappers with engraved paper title label on upper cover, later board slipcase covered with old paper. Condition : wrappers a bit rubbed, slipcase repaired. a delightful and rare toy book, relating the robinson crusoe-esque adventures of ernest. With nine paper dolls showing him as a young student, classical actor, fighting an English sailor, as a pirate's slave, shipwrecked (à la Robinson Crusoe), etc. Cf.
