PASTA ONER (*1979) ST. PAUL Starting price: 210 000 CZK (8 400 EUR) Description dimensions: 120 x 180 cm (h x w) period: 2018 Oil and acrylic on canvas. Signed on reverse. The conversion of Saint Paul depicts a moment of intense religious ecstasy transposed in 1950s aesthetics and themes. Comic book entertainment becomes a new religion, and a comic book hero enters the scene and, instead of God, zaps the body of Saint Paul. He falls from a horse to land at the feet of a young woman from the new world, who is just about to serve food at a picnic in a meadow. Pasta Oner is one of the most standout exponents of the contemporary Czech art scene. His work unites with and exceeds the classic genre categories of Pop Art and cartoon aesthetics. His oeuvre, which includes acrylic painting, hanging paintings, spatial objects, sculptures, installations, and murals, characteristically reflects and pokes fun at contemporary pop-culture society. He has participated in some thirty group exhibitions, and in recent years he has held four large solo exhibition projects (Peep Show, Man on Fire, Recall, Last Days in Paradise, Art is Truth). Beyond his art studio and gallery work, he often represents the Czech Republic at official cultural and social events abroad (including EXPO Shanghai, 2010; Summer Olympics in London, 2012; exhibition at MAB, Brasilia 2012; mural in Magnitogorsk, 2014; Saatchi Gallery exhibition, London 2015).
